UGADEN is a registered non-profit civil society organization involved in promoting demand driven agroforestry technologies in Uganda. It was established in November 2001 out of a need to provide a nation-wide linkage between the various stakeholders for effective agroforestry technology development and dissemination in Uganda. Its first national secretariat was hosted by ICRAF-Uganda (2002 – 2003) and later, due to need for additional space; it was moved to its current host institution – the National Forestry Resources Research Institute (NaFORRI), located in Mukono District (35 km east of Kampala city). Technical backstopping is provided by the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF), NaFORRI and Faculty of Forestry and Nature Conservation, Makerere University. As a network, UGADEN activities mainly focus on capacity building, information dissemination and networking and advocacy. UGADEN currently provides linkage to over 350 organizations and institutions promoting agroforestry in Uganda.

The network is composed of:  (1) Steering Committee with representatives from Research, NGOs, Line Government Ministries, Private sector, Institutions of higher learning and Curriculum Development Centre; (2) National Coordination Secretariat - headed by the National Coordinator, and (3) Zonal Centres – based in each of the country’s twelve agro-ecological zones.
